Ortho Foot
The Role of the Foot in Adolescent Posture and Spinal Development

Between the ages of 7 and 18, a young person's body is in a phase of rapid growth, or adolescence. It is during this period that postural disorders such as spinal curvature, shoulder asymmetry and uneven positioning of the pelvic bones emerge.

The foot serves as the foundation of the human body. When the foot is positioned incorrectly, for example when valgus or asymmetry is present, this directly affects other parts of the body. If the foundation sinks on one side, the pelvis tilts accordingly, disrupting the balance of the entire structure.

When the pelvis tilts, the body naturally tries to maintain its balance. To compensate for this position, the spine bends in the opposite direction. This mechanism leads to the development of back problems that actually originate in the foot.

Treating the back alone is often insufficient to manage the problem effectively, and attention must be paid to the body's foundation. Ortho Foot clinic provides a thorough assessment of the foot's condition and selects appropriate support.

Affected areas of the body

  • 03Uneven positioning of the pelvic bones.
  • 04Incorrect foot position when standing, including valgus.

Accepted treatment methods

These methods are accepted in international clinical practice and are not exclusive to our clinic's approach.

  • Assessment of the patient's condition at Ortho Foot clinic begins with a biomechanical assessment and baropodometry, performed using SensorMedica equipment.
  • Based on the data obtained, a custom orthopaedic insole is made to serve as a preventive measure. It prevents the pelvis from tilting and helps prevent spinal curvature.
  • If scoliosis has already begun, a custom insole provides proper support so that the condition does not worsen during growth and its progression is halted.
  • Using an insole alongside other comprehensive therapy helps the body's axis return to its correct position.
